New Years Day - Are taking things to the next level

January - February 2016
Tour, UK

****

Are a band you will just grow to love

New Years Day **** are a band that the great British magazines have lumped in with this new genre called New Grave along with the Ashestoangels, Fearless Vampire Killers, Never Found and now strangely Motionless in White... which I really don't get. Just because you wear make up doesn't mean you should be lumped in with a load of other bands that wear make, I really don't get it.

I really think New Years Day are so much more than that, ok they started off sounding a little like a Paramore tribute act... but they have developed heir sound into being a really interesting act. The bands new sound crosses through genres and singer Ash Costello vocals sound stronger and better than ever.

The band really showed this as the tour went on, and they showed that they are almost ready to take the UK by storm on their own headline tour. But in the meantime they have been touring with Motionless in White and Escape the Fate, and been going down a storm.

For now they are the perfect band to support Motionless in White, especially when Ash and Chris Motionless did a song called 'Angel Eye's' together. This song is now a favourite amongst both Motionless in White and New Years Day fans. Ok! the line-up has change a little, even from the last EP 'Epidemic' and album 'Malevolence' releases. But the band has not lost any of it's charm, and the fact that Ash can turn from the girl next door into a vixen in a matter of seconds... makes them strangely appealing.

I also think the band have a really cool look, that comes across well on stage and in promo images. But I do think they need to stop changing the line-up because it confuses people, most music lovers want to see a stable line-up in a band and get disappointed if they don't see their favourite members.

One of the ex-members I think they sadly miss is Nick Rossi, who brought a certain something to the band. Saying this though Jeremy Valentyne (Guitar) and Trixx (Drums) really show they have what it takes to bring New Years Day into the next century. And with Nikki Misery's chaotic persona and outlandish stage pressence... I really think they have something. I am not so keen on new bassist Brandon Wolfe, who has an offish persona and I don't think connects so well with the public.

The real highlights of the show is the title tracks off the last EP and album, 'Epidemic' is catchy and has a real evil tint to it... and I have to say really sinks into your memory in a good way and 'Malevolence' is just breathe taking and shows off Ash's vocals in the best way.

To be honest their is not a bad song in the bands set and their performance is spot on, you can't really expect more from a support band. 'Kill or be Killed' is great and catchy, like older song 'The Other Side', which is a little different but still engages you into their World.

This is a band I am really learning to love, and just can't stop listening to... one of my best friends is hooked to them and I can now see why. They are different from other acts, and have so many twists and elements that just make you like them more every time you hear them.

And with great closures 'Angel Eyes' and 'Defame Me' you are just wanted more, and realise their set is far too short. If you like female singers or even if you don't you will love New Years Day.. Also I really think it's nice how all the band members, went and met all their fans after their set... this is something really commendable.
