Paradise Lost - Need some time off!!!

Paradise Lost's lowest moment comes at Graspop!
Graspop Metal Meeting
Paradise Lost *** I have to start off by saying I love Paradise Lost, but this for me was the worst performance I have ever seen them play. If you look at the setlist you will think, what a great list of songs how can this be a two and a half star review. The thing is the whole set was really disjointed and didn't follow and seemed like they had just been picking out random songs, not caring where they where and who they needed to appeal to.
The whole feel of the set is like a sinking ship and the band members are just about to jump overboard. I think maybe they just need some time off from the band, because when I saw them before they played a gig that really stuck in my mind as being one I will never forget and this is just not that. Ok it's nice to hear songs like 'So much is Lost' which is one of my favourites off the underrated 'Host' album, which a lot of fans didn't take to like they should have because it was so different from what the band had done before. I found it quite strange that they opened their set with 'The Enemy', the best tune off their 'In Requiem' album and it's really nice to hear done in the live enviroment. I think the last time I heard this song was back on the tour for the 'In Requiem' album, but I might be mistaken. I think this song has a very acceciable melody to it that verges on Doom and Goth in a anthem Esq. way using singe Nick Holmes vocals to the best of his abilites.
If you are a big fan of the band you would have loved their choice of songs, because 'Gothic' is brought out backed with 'Enchantment' and 'Erased' off the 'Symbol of Life' album, which is one of my favourites. I liked how on this album they mixed up their traditional sound with the ideas they had on 'Host' to make a perfect album to appeal to fans of their old and new direction. This song is one of my favourites in the bands set, which actually includes loads of material I like. It's just a shame they are not more cheery and have more confidence while they play it. You can see this lack of get up and go on tracks 'Faith divides Us - Death unites Us' and 'Tragic Idol' which both are a little murky and drag on a little, but the set is boosted up by another song of the 'Symbol of Life' album 'Isolate' which for me is a perfect Paradise Lost song.
This track saves the day for them a little, like their nice version of 'One Second' and closing number and fan favourite 'Say just Words' which end off the bands set nicely. I just hope that Paradise Lost get the heart back because they are a very important band in the Gothic Metal / Doom genre. I will be checking back to see how they can bring themselves out of this slump. This was the worst set I saw the band play but it was still enjoyable, I think this is because they played material they don't normally play. Paradise Lost are a classic band you don't want to write off.
