Pink Cigar - Tipped to be the next big thing!
***1/2
Is it all hype or do you want to suck on this cigar!
Pink Cigar ***1/2 have been causing quite a stir recently apparently or is that just among their friends, well tonight we are hear to see which one it is. The drummer might have a famous dad (Rik Mayall of Bottom and Young Ones) fame but I don't think this is the reason that everyone wants a piece of this cigar, I think it's because they produce an adrenaline fueled Rock explosion of a show that hasn't been seen on the London scene since Tower of London. I can't work out though were it came natural for the Tower of London boys to be bad, this just seems a little manufactured to me.
Like let's be bad!!! but nothing that bad or chaotic really happens which is a real shame because I would have liked to see it. The first time I heard Pink Cigar was when I was in the studio and I took a package out of my bag and out popped their CD and it grabbed my attention and made me think for a second. Well that was because the address on the CD was the actual building I was standing in, they actually recorded the album in the studio across from the one we used.
This instantly made me want to listen to it out of curiosity, and from the start of the record I thought this is not bad and the production is pretty good. The album did get a little repetitive as it went on but it was still good Rock 'n' Roll music.
Even though Pink Cigar don't seem to be the bad boys that I want them to be they do Rock quite hard and they do seem to have a determination to make it as a band. Yes the room is packed, good promoting boys even if most of them are your friends but people that wondered into the FREE gig at The Black Heart stayed and didn't go away which shows if you got them in front of the right crowd they good possibly make it.
They delight you with the in your face single 'Lady Killer' and then make you sweat with 'Generation Next' which reminds you of so many other songs. This isn't anything new but they have a buzz behind them and I would like to catch them at a festival sometime, because I could see the place going crazy. Like this little venue in Camden did when they played the faster numbers.
I think if Pink Cigar desired they could go all the way, so look out for them trashing a festival near you soon... because I think 2014 will be the year of the Pink Cigar... and that is not a vibrator reference.
