The Nightcrawlers impress in London

Priest ****3/4 are on their a tour with Combichrist and Mimi Barks, and have been on the road for almost thirty dates. London being one of the last, so they really wanted to impress tonight. I have to say I would not want to go on before Combichrist myself, their show is always intense and full of energy. So it was going to be a hard for Priest to impress coming on before them, they even said this onstage just before their last song 'Vaudeville'. Which is a song that always gets people moving at their shows, I know this is one of my personal favourites.

'The Pit' is a classic anthem that is always a stable in a Priest set, it drags you into what the band is all about. Retro sounding Electronic music, with a slight dark edge. Like a creepy club in Soho, London, to the dark streets at night in New York or some dodgy sex shop that is in the back streets in Sweden. Mercury announces "The next song is in the new Mel Gibson movie!" as they break into their single 'A Signal in the Noise', a song that just gets better and better everytime they play it.

It's really nice when Mercury sings with Mimi Barks who has been supporting on the tour, for a track called 'Blacklisted'. This song really worked well, and really mixed up Priest's set. It gave a nice contrast to the performance, that made you more invested in the show. Mimi Barks put on an amazing set before Priest embraced the stage, and actually their sound and vocals really merge nicely together. So would be nice to see them do more songs together in the future, I think maybe they sould make Mimi and honoury member of Priest. Yes! it worked that well, would love to her sing on unique versions of other tracks to.

One of the tracks I had been really looking forward to hearing was 'Nightcrawler', which is one of the stand out tracks off the new album 'Body Machine'. One of the other best moments in their London performance is 'Obey', when singer Mercury goes to the front of the stage and really commands the audience. He is almost sucking away the power of the crowd, because the band seems to get more and more energy. The set today is far to short, because they are supporting. But sometimes short is sweet, because the whole performance is really enjoyable.

Ok Priest might not have the members and the brutal intensity that Combichrist do, but they got everyone dancing and pumpin' their fists and really gave them a run for their money. Which I have never seen anyone do with Combichrist, so this was quite something to see. This was a great set by Priest, and if you have not seen them live you should really check them out. Because here at Music Trespass Magazine we feel that there is so much more to come with them, and we want to be a long for the ride (Hope you do Too!!!).
