Looking for the 'Holy Grail' at the London, Koko

The Rasmus **** When I get to the venue and look on the merchandise stand I see they are selling really cool classic looking feathers jewelry, if you know The Rasmus well you will know Lauri the lead singer is well known for wearing black feathers in his hair. Something the band first started on their 'Dead Letters' album, sadly he doesn't come on wearing them tonight. But I always like this look, because made him look like a cross between a Raven / Crow and Brandon Lee from the film 'The Crow'.

Opening their set with one of their heavier songs 'First day of my Life', they come out with full force and ready to deliver an energetic and powerful set. They continue on with their big hits 'Guilty' and 'No Fear', both songs that I had on repeat when they first came out. They play these perfectly, and I really can't complain about anything... but the stage is just too dark and it is taking away something away from their performance. I think with The Rasmus they need more light, because they always have some great expressions on their faces, and it is too dark to see them at certain points.

A song that has been growing every time they play it live is 'Time to Burn', this sounds stronger than it ever has done before... and has more life to it now than just being a vintage album track. We just can't believe it's been over twenty five years since The Rasmus first played in the UK. It seems like just yesterday, and I don't think they have actually aged much since when they have first come over. In looks and sound, they just seem the same.

A silly but fun addition to their set tonight is their Acoustic cover of 'Ghostbusters' the theme tune to the classic 80's movie, apparently the fans had been begging them to play it because it appeared on one of their earlier releases. 'Funeral Song' is just mesmorising, it's dark tones always bring something different to the bands set. 'F-F-F-Falling' also sounds really big like one of my all time favourite songs 'Living in a World without You', which is a little more Dance orientated than some of their other songs. These three songs are some of the best on show tonight, and the band again play these flawless.

Closing the main set with mega hit 'In the Shadows', which is always just a mass sing-a-long and this evening it's no different. This song did really well in the charts all over the World and get's stuck in everyone head. The first song in the encore is new song 'Holy Grail', which I really love... it's so good , and shows The Rasmus have not lost anything. I really love The Rasmus and they always put on a great show, but the lighting and a few things let this one down. I was shocked they didn't end the encore with 'In the Shadows', but I think in recent years 'Sail Away' has really become a fan favourite.

They played a prank on singer Lauri and put his setlist in Finnish, so he kept having to check it to see what song was next... which is quite hard when your used to it being in English. You can see the setlist pictured below and you can practice saying the Finnish for each of The Rasmus' songs.
