The Rezillos - Announce UK tour with The Professionals
The Rezillos to play uk shows to celebrate 45th anniversary!!!
The Rezillos will hit the road again at the end of 2023, in support of their 'Top of the Pops' 45th anniversary tour. I guess it's been forty five years since they first played the iconic BBC show TOTP (Top of the Pops) performing a song of the same name, which was one of the bands finest moments. The tour will start at the end of October and go to mid November, and is sure to be a Sell Out!!!. Support on these shows will come from Punk Rock supergroup The Professionals which features Paul Cook (Sex Pistols / Generation Sex) / Tom Spencer (The Yo-Yo's / Ex-The Loyalties) / Chris McCormack (3 colours Red / Ex-Grand theft Audio) / Toshi JC Ogawa (Ex-The Wildhearts / Ex-Antiproduct / Ex-Ga*Ga*s / Ex-Mutation / Ex-Slaves to Gravity).
The Rezillos are a Punk / New Wave band formed in Edinburgh, Scotland, in 1976. Their independent debut single 'I can’t stand my Baby' shot them to underground fame initially via airings on the radio show of BBC Radio 1's John Peel. Their follow up classic singles 'My baby does good Sculptures', 'Top of the Pops' and 'Destination Venus' signalled critically acclaimed milestones for the band. The Rezillos recorded their landmark album 'Can't stand the Rezillos' in New York’s fabled Power Station studio, immersed themselves in the local music scene and dropped in during downtime to play a gig at CBGB’s, the hub of Punk Rock music. The album reached the top ten in the UK album chart, and is lauded as Punk classic.
The foundations for The Professionals emerged while Paul Cook and guitarist Steve Jones busied themselves completing the film 'The Great Rock 'n' Roll Swindle', following the demise of the Sex Pistols in 1978. With the Cook ‘n’ Jones composition ‘Silly Thing’ reaching No.6 on the UK single’s charts in 1979, the pair proved they could deliver in their own right and spent the rest of the year working on what would become The Professionals’ debut single ‘Just another Dream’ and the follow-up singles ‘1-2-3’ and 'Join the Professionals'. The 1981 album ‘I didn’t see it Coming’ hit the shops in 1981, but the band split at the end of 1982.
