In search of Sun - Sampler
*****
Promising band amazes us with their sampler CD!!!
I have to be honest, I was not expecting much when I recieved this sampler CD from In search of Sun. It came with no cover artwork with just the name of the band on the front, and the tracks on the back. But I put it on and from the first track and current single 'Elevation', I was totally hooked. It's so well produced and hard hitting... think Leprous meets Tesseract meets Linkin Park with a hint of Disturbed!!! and you won't even have it. And now I have seen the artwork, which looks amazing!!!, I do wonder why they sent me this CD how they did... because I would have picked it up straight away if I had seen this great cover.
It's Melodic, It's Progressive Metal, It's Nu-Metal, It's Classic Rock. It just has everything Muse eat your heart out this is going to be a big band. The good thing about In search of Sun is that their a British band, coming out of London. Even though some of their sound, comes out of the American and Finnish Metal market. Also the good thing about 'Elevation' is the vocals by Adam Leader are really strong, and the guitar work is really technical and well thought out. They don't over do things, like a lot of Progressive Metal bands I have been hearing at the moment.
Second track on the sampler is another single 'The World is Yours', which you can hear the Disturbed influences again on with hints of In Flames but put back in this Progressive Metal / Alternative Rock package. This song like the all the tracks from the sampler except 'Elevation', are taken from the bands debut album of the same name 'The World is Yours'. The thing I like about this song, and the 'Elevation' is that it has again been put into a mainstream package that is really accessible to any Metal listener. Also it has a killer guitar solo in it, and a very singable vocal line.
'Idle Crown' starts with a distinctive riff and beats on the bass drum, before it's haunting chords and Leprous type vocals come in. It has so many cool bits from screaming vocals to a classical guitar piece mid way through. The closer on the sampler 'Draw the Line' is equally as good as the other tracks, and has some stand out moments to it. Again the really strong vocals and the technical guitars we are coiled around a simple but brilliant riff, making it stand out on it's own terms.
I have no idea why I have not heard of this band before, they have what it takes to be big. And with bands like Tesseract grabbing a lot of attention at the moment, I'm sure it won't be too long before people have heard of In search of Sun. I know I will be listening to them more in the future, and look forward to catching them live.
