Seth Lakeman - Brings his brand of Medieval Folk to Cornbury!

July 7th 2013
Oxfordshire, Cornbury Festival, UK

****

The majesty of Folk Seth plays a late set!

Seth Lakeman **** (Songbird Stage) is on last again and people have already left or leaving to make sure they get home tonight. Seth brings a hint of medieval history into all his songs. He really gets the crowd going and even though the music seems evil and dark, with a hint of darkness there is something up beat and appealing about it.

You get to hear his great song ‘Lady of the Sea’ in his set as well as an astonishing version of the ‘Blacksmith’s Prayer’ which is dark and broody but he does take you back to times of old. He is a strange choice to end the festival with and it’s a shame that loads of people don’t get to see him, but for me it was a good end to my weekend.

Seth Lakeman shows that Folk does not have to be boring and that you can work with the aspects of traditional Folk and mix them up to make them dark and different. It’s a shame he is always on so late because I think there are so many people that have not experienced the magic of his performance. You don’t really notice that there are other people that are playing with him because of his presence on the stage and the way he commands the audience with his fiddle. Seth is one that you should check out because he is really great live, If you don't know his work check out the album'Freedom Fields' it's a great one to start with.
