Seven Deadly - Obliviation
***
UK rising stars unleash their debut!
Raised from the ashes of Panic Cell, bringing in a young singer and taking a more user friendly more melodic approach Seven Deadly have been doing the gig circuits as well as bagging some high profile festival appearances. Following on from 2012's 'The Allegiance' EP 'Obliviation' shows the band aiming for the stars. It's got a big sound and production. It's got that mainstream metal sound with that American radio friendly feel. Fans of bands such as Five finger death Punch will lap it up. It's not a critic as it's obviously the sound the band aimed for and they have achieved what they set out to do in a big way.
Ranging from down tuned bouncy riffs and roared vocals on tracks such as opener "play the game". The bands main weapon is vocalist Archie Wilson who has fantastic range and is showcased fully during the big, soaring chorus' that are all over the album. The chorus for "Life begins to fade" for example you can just vision being sung in front of a festival crowd while the audience shots the words back at the band. The songs are also extremely melodic. Normally starting with some sampled programming then leading into the main riff, melodic mid paced verse into the big chorus.
The problem lies in the fact that the music just feels like it's backing the vocals. The songs are lacking memorable riffs and hooks. While the album will be marketed to a more mainstream audience which it will no doubt reach and please but it would just benefit from a bit more menace and attitude that Heavy Metal is loved for. Don't let that sway you Seven Deadly have plenty to offer. If you looking for somewhere between Alter Bridge and Five finger death Punch this single is sure to be the soundtrack to your summer!
