Putting a slice of Metal back into Wales!

Hard Rock Hell

Skindred ****are promoting their new album 'Kill the Power' by this rare and exciting headline slot tonight. The band that came from the ashes of Dub War and formed way back in 1998, come from not far away from where the festival is being held in Newport, Wales so are really psyched up for their headline slot. In the last few years Skindred have been getting really popular and it's because of great live performances like the one they do today.

Before they came on with are presented with an intro that includes AC/DC's 'Thunderstruck' and the Star Wars 'Imperial March', when this ends we realise it's time to get the party started. They come on like soldiers of fortune and the fortune for them is playing back home for a change. From opening number 'Ninja' you can feel that their is excitement in the air and as hit ‘Babylon’ lifts off spirits in the crowd are like a rocket ready to be launch. And by the time that they decide it is time for something special later in the set, we just know that, is the Newport helicopter which really causes chaos. I am sure their is some 'Bruises' in the audience tonight and as they play the song of that title the place just goes crazy.

The Newport helicopter is when you swing your coat or jumper round your head like a… helicopter, a little in bad taste with the crash in Glasgow, Scotland but sill looks really cool. New song ‘Kill the Power’ is really great and is an instant hit for the band, so looks like they might do well with the new album, they filmed a special video for it earlier in the year and you can view that at the bottom of this page. We are all living in a 'Rat Race' and Skindred really put details of everyday life into each and every one of their songs, this is a band that know what life on the streets is like and that is also shown in their video to 'Kill the Power'.

‘Trouble’ is also a song that is greeted like an old friend. With Benji wearing a Metallica T-shirt on tonight he breaks the band into the beginning of ‘Sad but True’ to the delight of many people and then toys with Rock genres as the band play riffs from well known songs in between their own. It's good to pay homage to your hero's and people you respect, a band should always remember where they are from.

They end the set off with their hit ‘Nobody’ before coming back on to the riffs of ‘Breathe’ by The Prodigy and ending on their mega hit ‘Warning’. You can see why Skindred are so popular, because they put on a great live show and are simply just fun. So catch them when they tour the UK next year. It is surely one you do not want to miss.
