Welcome back Snot!!!

Graspop Festival

Snot **** (Jupiler Stage) are paying tribute every time they play to the late great Lynn Strait their vocalist that sadly passed away back in 1998. Playing the music he created and loved so much, and they really do his songs justice. This is their first performance at the Graspop Metal Meeting and Belgium are ready for a real treat, a special treat Snot style... and they have been waiting for it for years.

The current line-up which features original members Mikey Doling (Snot / Channel Zero / Ex-Soulfly), John 'Tumor' Fahnestock (Snot / Amen / Lo-Pro) as well as Mike Smith (Snot / Limp Bizkit / The Start) who joined Snot just before Lynn died and Jamie Miller (Snot / The Start / And you will know us by the trail of Dead). They are also joined by a great new vocalist Carl Bensley (Vitiate / Consume the Fire), who could not be more perfect for the job and really does the songs justice.

The band launch into their title anthem 'Snot' like they have never been away, showing such forcefulness and love of playing live at the same time. This is a band that just plays for the passion of playing, and enjoy every minute of playing these classic songs to audiences that have been waiting a long time to hear them done live again. 'Joy Ride' is so fast and hits you so hard it knocks you over, with it's classic Oi Punk Esq. backing vocals... to it's killer fast Stoner / Punk vibe you just can't believe your hearing it live in the Belgium sun on a small tiny stage. It's so big and would have filled the surroundings of the main stages perfectly. It's a real shame that more people, didn't get to hear and see this great set.

It is backed up by 'Snooze Button', which Jamie really comes to life on... and as John's and Mikey Funky bass and guitar kicks in the groove you feel yourself about to explode into the mass of lyrics that Carl is delivering at you at the rate of knots. Rage against the Machine (WHO!!!) this is Snot and we do Funk / Metal / Nu-Metal at you in the real way. This is well polished... well put together Groove Metal that mixes up so many genres so perfectly. This is a band that would have been so big, if Lynn hadn't sadly passed away... they have everything a Metal head wants.

In a World of so many bland bands, we really needed a band like Snot back. They break into a semi-chilled version of 'Stoopid' that Mike Smith delivers with persition, before it's taking to the extreme and blows your lungs out. It's so great hearing so many songs from the bands only album release 'Get Some', like 'I Jus' Lie, Deadfall' and 'Tecato' a song that is blended with a snippet of the track 'New Level'... before they give you a little treat.

This treat is a very suprising cover of Metallica's 'Hit the Lights' which is placed in nicely in the bands Graspop set and included a guest apperence from their friend Franky De Smet-Van Damme (Channel Zero). Snot guitarist Mikey Doling is used to playing with Franky on stage because he is a member of Channel Zero as well, which is actually a Belgium band. So this was a special treat for their fans at the Graspop Metal Meeting in Belgium to have a reunion of minds onstage.

They end the whole set with 'Absent' off the bands Lynn tribute album entitled 'Strait Up', this is a great way to leave things and the end to a perfect set. If you don't know the music of Snot your really missing out so go out and buy 'Get Some' you will not be disappointed.
