Soulfly - Max and Igor team back up in Hyde Park!
***
Soulfly get Primitive at London's Hyde Park!
British Summer Time
Soulfly *** (Main Stage) Opening a momentous day of Metal in London's Hyde Park supporting the mighty Black Sabbath, maybe for the last and final time but who actually knows. Max Cavalera's group of rebel's take to the stage and with no hesitation fire into 'The Prophecy'. Guitarist Mark Rizzo a veteran in Soulfly's ever changing line up is as always the star of the show injecting energy into the band with his high energetic stage presence, but when is Max finally going to get a line-up that sticks around and doesn't leave after doing only one or two albums.
Max's son Zyon who has been drafted into the band recently more then shows off that he is a competent drummer in his own merit. The tribal feel is always present in the Max's work and songs like 'Back to the Primitive' and 'Tribe' has always been present since they first released 'Roots' back in 1996. They throw in a few Sepultura classic's as well in for good measure.
Like 'Arise' which they have picked to be one of these special songs for today's performance and it sounds fresher than ever and shows that the old material is still quite current. This song merges into 'Dead embryonic Cells' which I am sure not everyone in the audience knows. Igor Cavalera joins the band for a Sabbath jam playing the first bars of Black Sabbath's 'Sympton of the Universe' before breaking in to Sepultura classic 'Roots bloody Roots' it's a short set but the impression is made and the crowd are fired up.
The band then plummet through Soulfly classic Jumpdaf**Kup which originally featured Cory Taylor (Slipknot) to fans pleasure and they get even more exstatic when it goes into 'Eye for an Eye' off the bands self titled debut album. It's here you realize just how far Max has come since departing from Sepultura.
Today they played a short but solid greatest hits set and it reminds a lot of people that Soulfly is not his "New" band anymore! It's just a little strange that the set does not contain any material off the last two Soulfly albums but that might just be due to time restraints and the fact he wants to give the fans what they want, and that is the hits. I think he needs to take a little break from Soulfly and work on other projects for a while so when he comes back it will be the bands best album to date.
