Starset - Take you into the cosmos in London!

Starset demonstrate that they are cosmic, but just what are they protesting against? Is it starting to make sense or you feeling a little E=MC2!!!

Starset ***** As a closet geek I have to admit that cool neon masks, futuristic control panels, and basically any bright shiny technological thing gets me drooling. Add visuals of the inventor and mechanical engineer Nikola Tesla, references to “the problem of increasing human energy”, and music interlaced with nasa style mission to launch audio, and not only I am I nearly wetting my pants with excitement but my hookian attention is stretched into a whole other dimension.

Starset are an American Rock band with a Sci-Fi twist, a message and a warning. Lead singer Dustin Bates is on a space mission to use music as an allegory. An as yet oblique non linear story about a dystopian hypothetical future is about to unfold on us. Can we the audience save humanity by acting on a warning message sent to the past?  Are we the meant to, prevent the future, which is the present, by changing the past as suggested in 'First Light', the opening track from the album. What sort of protestors are the audience being cast as? The curiosity is building...  Intrigued is not the word.

But, the question that matters in this moment, is not about winning a fantasy fantastic rebellion and metaphorically slaying the beast of 'Carnivore', but whether they managed to slay the London, KoKo audience, and draw them into the fantasy.  The answer is… yes they Rock.  This band is as hot as a planetary nebula, and we are just waiting for them to go supernovae. They could easierly become a household name with their brand of music, that has been reinvented from bands like Muse / Linkin Park and 30 Seconds to Mars. All these bands have broke out from Rock / Indie into mainstream Alternative Rock and now fill arena's, so the future is looking bright for Starset.

Starset played songs from their debut album 'Transmissions', that came out back in November 2014. Their set list included 'Halo, Rise and Fall, Carnivore' and the hugely popular 'My Demons'. Ron DeChant and Brock Richards, are suited up with cool neon space masks and move in an impressive head banging synchronization that give the live show real buzz and high energy. Dustin Bates shows his talent and diversity by switching from keyboards to a giant iPad and just going all out on the vocals. He alternates between two different mics, one for clean vocals and the other for screaming vocals. This band that we said before have compared to Linkin Park and certainly the screaming vocals in 'Rise and Fall' remind me of 'Keys to the Kingdom'.  I love the way the way their music moves into a pseudo classical movie music sound.

I would really like to see them play as the headline act, with increased firepower, and a lot more technological toys on stage. The space helmets that light up on stage are jaw dropping and the band members outfits look just right to go with them. Also the amazing see through computer desk just looks so fantastic that there is no words to explain it, this band have really have impressed me. I just simply can’t wait for these guys to explode into mega popularity, so that those who have had an eye on them for while can find out what the warning message is. The question is how long will they keep the fans waiting for the revelation?
