Supergrass - A band back at their very best!!!
*****
Oxford Indie Rockers impress as the sun doesn't hit the sky!!!
Supergrass ***** It was very much a hit laden classic Supergrass set, as you would expect them to play when they are on an event like this. Opening with their song about being caught by the Rozzers (Police) 'Caught by the Fuzz', which has always been one of my favourite songs. "I'd like to know, where all the strange ones go!" well they have gone to Pub in the Park, to see Supergrass. Because everyone must look so strange, covering themselves up and hiding away from the conditions. Not even the brilliant 'Manzine Rooster', 'Mary' and 'Richard III' all songs I listened to loads when I was living in Oxford got them out from shelter. Not even 'Moving' got people "Moving' out from undercover.
But a miracle does happen when they played 'Alright’, which seemed to be the one people were waiting for which was just over midway through their set. All the people seemed to come out from nowhere to hear and see the song, from their hideaways undercover. Now not caring how wet and damp the weather and atmosphere was, they all seemed to have a very damp dance to this track... thinking it was well worth getting wet to hear and have fun to one of the bands biggest songs. This song was swiftly followed by ‘Sun hits the Sky’, which is somewhat ironic with it being so wet and damp.
'Lenny' one of the bands heavier tracks, is great as usual bu it was all over way too quickly. The music is so good is the only reason that many have not headed home to get dried off, and by the time it get's to the last couple of songs in the set ‘Strange Ones’ and ‘Pumping on your Stereo’ people have really started to get into the show. Probably thinking they couldn't get any wetter, these seemed to get the second biggest reaction of the night. There was no encore as I think the curfew was strictly 10.30 with the park being in the middle of town.
Overall, a great evening, somewhat dampened in many senses of the word by the rain. Pub in the Park seems to continue to go from strength to strength in Bath and nobody can help the weather, you could argue a bit a bad weather is somewhat traditional for a British festival, and we all get to home to our warm beds instead of a leaky tent, so what is there not to like.
