Supersuckers - Get the Hell
*****
If you like Rock 'n' Roll you will love this!
Self proclaimed "Greatest Rock 'n' Roll band in the World" the Supersuckers bring you 'Get the Hell' their ninth studio abum. The Supersuckers mix up this old school Rock 'n' Roll with Punk roots and a desire to bring you a crazy full on Rock show. 'Get the Hell' was recorded at Willie Nelson's famed Arlyn Studio's in Austin, Texas and was mixed by the leader for the infamous and crazy leader of the Dwarves, Blag Dahlia and Andy Carpenter. Lemmy (Motorhead) once said "If you don't like the Supersuckers, you don't like Rock 'n' Roll", which is some statement to say about a band by someone so legendary. So if you have not wanted to listen to this album after you read that I have no idea what you are thinking. It makes me want to run and put it on and start to Rock in my room, if their good enough for Lemmy they are good enough for me.
The album starts with an air raid siren before it launches into the title track 'Get the Hell' and you can see straight away that the band have been getting a few tips from friends Backyard Babies because they definatly are mixing up their sound with the traditional sound of the band. Singer Eddie Spaghetti vocals sound better than ever and the well timed back beat by recent addition to the band on drums Captain Von Streicher (Throw Rag) really stands out. The Backyard Babies / Hellacopters influence continues on the infections 'Something about You' which is very catchy and full of cool Rock cliche's done in the way they should be done. The screaming harmonica sound of 'F**K Up' sounds like it's lifted of a Hanoi Rocks record and the Blues vibe is simply killer. This song has a real 80's feel to it and fits on the record like it was always meant to be their. I don't think the Supersuckers did a 'F**k Up' on this album, because it sounds so good.
'High Tonight' has a good sense of being on the road to it and I think would be great to listen to on the road and would depict where you are and where your going. The Supersuckers are a hard working band and I think this gives you a feel of being in the band and working hard during the day and rockin' out at night so is really cool. 'Pushin' Thru' seems to be a song about when your having a hard time you have to keep trying and as the band say "I have to keep pushin' Thru". I think we have all had this feel, so we can really identify with the song and it has a slight uplifting feel to help you do that. 'Never let me down Again' is a song about giving someone a second chance and it working out. This song has a feel of some many great Rock songs and you feel you might have heard it before, even though you haven't. It has that familar feel to it, and that is what makes a good Rock song.
'Gluttonous' is a nasty little sing-a-long song that has a late night buzz to it, I can imagine myself smashing things up to this and breaking the rules. It is kind of cool. 'Disaster Bastard' continues this buzz with a catchy melody that the guys will love. This is a get out your denim jacket and go drinking song. If you didn't love 'Disaster Bastard' you will love 'Bein' Bad' which is another song that makes you want to do the same thing. So the two tracks go really well and helps the feel of the album, which has been building up as it went along.
'That's what you Get' is simply brilliant and a really fast drivien and a going out drinking with your friends type of song. While 'Shut your Face' is actually in your face and makes you want to 'Rock On' to the last track. These two tracks are a brilliant end to an impressive Rock 'n' Roll record. So if I havn't said Rock 'n' Roll enough times in this piece then I think I should say it a few more times, because this album is brilliant Rock 'n' Roll. I am going to say something similar to Lemmy about this album "If you like Rock 'n' Roll then buy this album!" Yes!!! it is that good, the best Rock 'n' Roll album I have heard since Dregen self titled release last year. This album is the Supersuckers finest moment since their great release 'The Evil powers of Rock 'n' Roll' in 1999, and is one I would recommend to buy.
