T'Pau - Carol Decker has not quite got Bristol in her hand
***
T'Pau put their 'Heart and Soul' into it.
T'Pau *** Saturday was the first day of the Let’s Rock Retro Festival and once we had negotiated the bus from Temple Meads sorted out tickets etc. we made into the main arena. Having not seen the set times beforehand we realised that by 2.30pm we had already unfortunately missed acts including Black Lace, A flock of Seagulls and Captain Sensible, our fault, must get there earlier next time. We did however get there in time to see T’Pau.
It turns out that this is there thirteenth year as a band, of course formed in the 80’s which this festival is celebrating. A fair number of the crowd had got into the fancy dress vibe too to celebrate said decade with costumes including Super Mario, Where’s Wally and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles amongst others. However, T’Pau did treat us to a new song during which we were informed it was not time to f**k off to the bar.
Of course Carol Decker and her band mates also treated the crowd to their hits from way back when including ‘Heart and Soul’. The biggest hit was saved for last when ‘China in your Hand’ received the first mass sing along we witnessed of the day. The sunshine and the hits just put people in a great mood to have fun while enjoying the hits of their youth.
Some had even brought their families to show the next generation what they missed. As well as the bands other 80’s icons were in attendance from Dave Benson Phillips doing the introductions to Pat Sharpe doing a bit of DJ’ing later on for the VIPs.
The Stormtroopers even made an appearance at the front of the stage during T’Pau’s set. Must admit I never had Darth Vader down as a power ballad before would have thought he would like something darker, but it’s fair to say it went down well with the crowd.
