The Tricks - In the Doghouse

(CD EP Review)

***

Does this band have any unknown tricks!

The Tricks are a four piece Indie Rock band originating from Hertfordshire. They started writing and performing together as teenagers, and as the years passed decided to relocate to London to follow their dreams in the music industry. They continued to gig hard on the London circuit and gained a good fan base. From there they were spotted by a Los Angeles based record label, Unison Music Group, and in a whirlwind were flown out to the States to work with Grammy Nominated producers Bruce Witkin and Ryan Dorn. The result was their Debut EP.

On first hearing 'In the Doghouse', the first track 'Better' which features three times on the EP in different formats, I was reminded of early Undertones with lead vocalist Joel Hodge’s distinctive Fergal Sharkey tones. The song is very upbeat and catchy, and draws in the listener the more you hear it. The second track “The Dead of Night” has a slightly more soft Classic Rock style to it, and there are times when I’m reminded of a Firehouse track 'You are my Religion” This track has a nice melody to it, and grows on you the more you hear it. This is definitely a band to keep an eye on, and by the sounds of it they put on a great live performance.
