Venrez - Have the incrediants to be a big band!

Venrez have a great American Rock sound!

Venrez ***1/2 are an American Rock band from L.A. that have been turning some heads with their new album 'American Illusion'. They have a similar sound to bands like Stone temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver. I have only just got into Venrez and really loved the new album and didn't realise that their was two more records that came before it, They start with 'Hot Air' off the new album and it feels like a breathe of fresh air, it is American Rock and is nothing new but it's just what the doctor has ordered. It's just a shame that singer Jason Womack is a bit wooden while he sings it, standing up straight to attention with the same expression on his face and not the feeling the song deserves.

It just makes you think that maybe this was just done by numbers, which is a shame when the music is so good.I really love 'Free Will' reminds me of Audrey Horne when they were dark and really good, this sounds so much like tracks off their 'No hay Banda' album which is a really good thing. They continue the set on with the title track off their 2012 album 'Sell the Lie' which is a little too slow and durgy for my liking and the chords are a little too simplistic. The next track 'Vultures' in comparison is a nice contrast it has nice fast riffs and is a really driven track that flips from guitar sounds as it goes on.

'Sanctity' is a great single that slowly creeps up on you well and is really catchy at the same time and sounds like a Velvet Revolver track. And the opening track to their second album 'Karma' is very good to and the antics of Alex Kane (Ex-Antiproduct) on guitar during this song is brilliant he just goes crazy and thrashes it out.

Alex is like a whirlwind of enthusiasm that could have been used more throughout the set from the other members of the band. This might not have been the bands best performance but they have so many great songs and closing number 'Unforeseen' is one of them. It's a song that has been doing well when listened to and is already a stand out song for the band. Venrez is a great band on CD and I hope within time they will bring this into their live shows, because I will like to hear more albums and more of this band.
