All together now, it's fun to stay at the...

Village People **** Yes really, the Village People were playing live at Lets Rock Bristol, having told us they only got off the plane an hour ago there were certainly no signs of any travel weariness and it was straight into party mode from the start.

I was not sure what to expect to be honest, but a Red Indian, Cowboy, Builder, Army Officer and Policeman all took to the stage and basically danced for about half hour. The songs are sung by the various members but the music is pre-recorded as opposed to band, but that’s not an issue when you are basically at a live wedding disco.

They opened the set with ‘Stomp’ performing in front of quite a few of the crowd who had dressed in a similar fashion in tribute.  I couldn’t quite decide if it was really naff or really good, yet it was entertaining which their role, so success I guess is.

‘Macho Man’ was another followed by ‘San Francisco’ see I wasn’t joking it really was like a wedding playlist. To be fair though the reason they are played at weddings is that are catchy and you can dance to them so all credit for having songs originally starting from the 70’s that are still almost universally known being played so much.

There was some Naval Office attire and even a bit of semaphore for the rendition of ‘In the Navy’, at moments it had a Vegas feel about it including the five minute introducing the band. They left the stage for a few minutes, not really sure I saw the point in creating an encore.

But I guess that’s common practice and I get the impression they do pretty much the same show each time. It is more like a show than a concert in one sense but one that has been polished to perfection.

All too soon the set concluded firstly with ‘Go West’ and then of course ‘YMCA’ which it was of course obligatory to join in the actions for and I must say ten thousand people doing the 'YMCA' in a park on the edge of Bristol is quite a sight to behold.

Check Out! the Video for 'YMCA' Below...
