Waltari - Explosive Dance Rock comes to London
****
Rockin' like Scooter in London!!!
Waltari **** last played the UK supporting Die Krupps with Leechwoman way back in 1995, yes! they have not been here for twenty three years. Even the singer Kartsy Hatakka, did not think it had been so long. Now they are back, and they are supporting Mushroomhead at the London, Islington, o2 Academy.
The first song 'Walking in Neon' they had sound problems, with the sound engineer forgetting to turn on the guitars in the mix. So it sounds more like a Pop song than a Rock song, which Kartsy seemed to be very angry about. I can understand this, because it effected the way the audience first heard them. And with Waltari being gone from the UK for song long, I think was not a good thing. But their is always teething problems at the beginning of the tour, and the way the band conducted themselves onstage was very professional.
I really love the way the band mixes up genres, and the way they conduct themselves on stage... is almost like the Dance show of an act such as Scooter or The Prodigy. It's a full force, full on show and I have always been a fan of that. I think the addition of DJ / Keyboardist Jani Hölli is pure genius, it set's them apart from other bands that play heavy Rock music. And the way the guitars are in the mix, remind me a bit of bands like Rammstein or even Die Krupps which they have toured with (their maybe even a hint of Folk Metal in their music). This is best shown on new song 'Postrock', which they actually got to play.
I think Waltari come across very differently on stage, as they do on record. And that is not a bad thing, in the case of Waltari it's a very good thing indeed. They have a new brand of energy that they put into their live show, and they put new ideas into their songs in their performances that really work. Which you can hear tonight especially on 'Helsinki', which you can listen to at the bottom of this page.
I really think this is a quality band, and it's a real shame that the set is so short. I would like to see them in the UK again, at one of their own shows. Where they will have more space on the stage, for their full production. It's such a shame we didn't get to hear the other new song 'Skyline' and the rest of the songs that are tonight missing in London, well I hope their will be a next time for us to hear them live in the UK. Well they will be playing them on the rest of the tour, but I meant next time in London... because I know everyone that missed out wants to hear them.
