Scientists stir things up in Bristol 

We are Scientists **** are a New York based duo, well three piece when they play live, that have recently released their new album ‘Megaplex’ to rave reviews. Tonight they hit the SOLD OUT!!! Thekla in Bristol and despite it being a boat there was no chance of them getting that sinking feeling... as it was full of what must have been one of the most passionate crowds I have seen in a relatively compact space.

They bounded on the stage and had an instant rapport with the crowd but engaging and chatting to them as they continued to do throughout the set. Always good to have a band talk to the crowd rather than stare at the ground then head off, part of the attraction in seeing an act in the flesh.

The set opened with ‘Your light has Changed’ from the new album, and I wish the lights had changed... to being brighter to take the photo's. The band tonight only featured around five songs from ‘Megaplex’, which is a real shame because we really like this album.

In fact it featured a bit of a medley of their seven albums to date, which is what the fans want, all very well plugging the new album but you’ve barely had time to learn all the words. They of course treated us to their previous top fourty hits of ‘After Hours’ and fittingly titled ‘It’s a Hit’. Their first single  ‘Nobody Move, Nobody get Hurt’ got a great reception as the closing track to the main set.     

Why finish a gig on the stage when you can finish it in the crowd, well that’s exactly what We are Scientists did much to delight of the audience. The final song of the night was 'Textbook under the Sea’, slightly risky one when you’re on  a boat. A band that have a devoted following and they certainly give them the performance they deserve.  These scientists certainly fizz their way through their back catalogue and aren’t afraid of a little musical experiment now and then.
