We came as Romans - Are they the next big thing?

The army of Romans need to impress at Vans!

Vans Warped Tour

We came as Romans **** (East Stage) are one of the most hyped bands on the bill over the weekend, so I am really looking forward to seeing what they can produce. It's just strange that their highlight of their set is a cover of 'Glad you Came' by the boy band The Wanted

They do have a good stage presence and the two singer thing really works well for them. The clean vocals sometimes do seem like they are more suited for the Pop World than being in a band that are really coming front of the new heavy scene sound. They open with the first and title track of their new album 'Tracing back Roots' which is a good launching into action get the mosh pits going type of track, before they play their instant classic 'Ghosts' with a pure attitude of getting the show into motion.

This track is a little too similar to the opening track for my liking but I do like certain parts of it like some of the change overs are really well done and the clean vocals are very nice. 'Fade Away' is a nice contrast and the structure is a little strange it is almost in places like a Emo song and is one of the most commercial songs the band have ever produced, which will delight some fans but alienate others.

They get really heavy with 'Mis//Understanding' before they go Pop with their cover of The Wanted's 'Glad you Came' imagine being taken from the fire and into the snow this is the feeling I have here. You enjoy both tracks but the contrast and difference of them is maybe a little too much.

I can't fault either track because their both awesome, I love The Wanted cover because it's a song I like any ways and 'Mis//Understanding' is a stomping of a track that just makes me go mad every time I listen to it. I just think that mixing things up to much doesn't always work.

The next songs go by really quickly like the enlightened 'Hope' and their set closer with the brilliant 'To plant a Seed' and you realise this is a band that needs to be taken note of. I would like to see this band again and I will check out more of their material in future.
