Classic Metal, but have we all heard it before

The White Swan are the new band from Mercedes Lander (Kittie), Shane Jeffers and Kira Longeuay. 'The White' is the second EP from the band, and follow up to the first EP 'Anubis', which recieved rave reviews in the press. The White Swan I have to say are a million miles away from Kittie, so if your buying this because your a Kittie fan... maybe think again because it might not be one for you.

The White Swan mix up Stoner Metal and Sludge Metal on their new EP 'The White Swan'. From the start of opening track 'North Carolina', you are delivered an instrumental slice of the genres I have mentioned before. You do think a little that this track is a little too similar to other bands that you have heard do this before, like High of Fire, Desert Storm, Acid King, Diesel Kings and even some Electric Wizard. But I do think all three of these bands, have a few more different elements to their music.

'Lions' I have to say is a far better track, and is much more interesting... but I think this is because of Mercedes Lander's amazing a distinctive vocal style. You heard her do similar vocals on the materiel Kittie released. But it's nice to hear it on a slice of Sludge Metal, even though the vocals are too low in the mix. It gives an added factor to it, which I think they lacked in the first track.

The title track 'The White' is the third and last track on the bands EP, and it sounds like it was recorded back in the 70's. Again it takes advantage of Mercedes vocals, which is what makes this band distinctive, I look forward to hearing them try new things in the future. I don't think you have seen the best of them yet, the best is still to come. But if your a fan of Sludge, Stoner and Doom Metal, you can't go wrong purchasing this release.
