Wilko Johnson and Roger Daltrey - Going back Home

(CD Album Review)

****
Two members of British Rock Royalty go at it one more time!

A cynic would be forgiven for thinking WIlko Johnson's boost in popularity was due to his being diagnosed with cancer, which says more about the general public then anything else!. But his real boost....well actually reminder of what a gem Wilko is to British music history actually started with the fantastic 'Oil city Confidential' documentary, not to mention his appearance on 'Game of Thrones'. His heroic stance against his condition is to be admired by everyone. Choosing to tour and play basically till he drops.

During his seemingly endless string of gigs, he even said to a crowd during a gig recently if he wasn't dead by the end of the year it's going to start getting embarrassing!. He managed to get none other then Roger Daltrey into the studio and run through a selected number of songs by Wilko and Dr. Feelgood (and a Bob Dylan cover). 'Going back Home' was recorded in just under a week with Roger, Wilko and the backing band he has been using recently. Most if not all the track here have been in his live set over the last year or so. It pretty much does what it says on the tin. You have Roger Daltrey doing what he does best backed by a tight band running through some great British Rythem and Blues.

The cover of Bob Dylan's "Can you please crawl out your window" is great and won't fail to lift your mood. 'Turned 21' is a lovely little ballad which shows just what a great songwriter Wilko Johnson is. The band blaze through this little set and really let things rip with the finishing track 'All through the City' a Dr. Feelgood classic. A great little album. Not earth shattering but doesn't need to be, it's just all fun and having a good time. This is the perfect soundtrack to sitting in the sun, on the coast preferably Southend and getting drunk!
