Kevin Doherty - Seeing Things
***1/2
Moody Depressive releases steady album!
Kevin Doherty is a singer songwriter with a distinctive voice. I love the strings on opening track 'To Begin' which is really short only one min five seconds long. Kevin Doherty has been in a lot of bands over his career that started back in 1980 and he takes a lot influence from artists like Bob Dylan which he thinks brings him into a place where he can write good melodies and bring something into his own music. You can also hear a strong influence from Leonard Cohen on the track 'Esplendido Corazon' which is a track that has also added female vocals to it.
I think this song comes from Spanish roots but it could be Italian which ever it is it works really well in a song. The piano on 'Poor Boys' reminds me of old school music hall and would be really nice to hear in that environment. 'I'm going Now' is moody and has a great atmosphere to it and is a song that brings the moodiness of artists like Leonard Cohen and his track 'Everybody Knows' into account when listening to it.
This album is really great at the start but in the middle goes a little bit too slow for me and drags on a little, until we hit the track 'Rambling Irishman' which is haunting and one of the best songs on this recording and if you like moody singer songwriters telling a story this is a track you can't miss. Title track 'Seeing Things' isn't the best on the album but it does have some great depth and you can hear this track at the bottom of this page. This is a good album and a must for fans of Leonard Cohen andBob Dylan because I think you will love it, it's ten tracks which I think five of our superb.
