Faith no More - Are way ahead of the rest!!!
*****
Faith no More bring some craziness to British Summer Time!!!
British Summer Time
Faith no More ***** (Main Stage) have not played in the UK for quite a while now and after the band on before them at British Summer Time Motorhead leave, Roadies decorate the stage with flowers and cover all the amps in white sheets. Faith no More calmly walk on to the stage backed by Mike Oldfield's 'Tubular Bells' playing through the PA they stand still as the introduction plays dressed as priest's!.
The opening chords play and the open with 'Zombie Eater's' a long overlooked gem from 'The Real Thing' to my Knowledge the song hasn't been played live since they have reformed. I love the way since the reunion they open the show slowly and explode later on and that is exactly what they do today as 'Zombie Eaters' builds up to it's climax the band then explode into 'From out of Nowhere' and then straight into 'Epic'.
Faith no More have never been a band to play it safe and opening with what lesser bands would use as the climax of the show the bands setlist plays like this today is going to be a 'Greatest Hits' set. 'Caffeine' builds up the set nicely and really shows off how great Mike Patton's voice is, while 'The Gentle art of making Enemies' is a song you sometimes forget about how good it is... but their is no forgetting this today because it is just magical.
"Come on all you Heavy Metallers, it is alright to sing!" and they break out into 'Easy' a song that was originally recorded by The Commodores gives a nice moment to reflect and sing-a-long and is a really nice moment in the sun. 'Midlife Crisis' is just makes me say WOW!!! it is drivin at us perfectly and is one of the highlights of the bands set. While 'Everything's Ruined' is a special treat, the keys sound amazing and Mike Bordin's drums sound better than ever. This song has lots of twists and turns but at the same time keeping to a memorable melody of a chart friendly song.
It's also nice that they play so many songs from 1995's 'King for a day fool for a Lifetime' album, one I always loved. They have added the strange and usual 'Cuckoo for Caca' and the infectious 'King for a Day' to the set from this album which are both nice added bonus', but it's 'Ashes to Ashes' that really grabs our attention and shows why it was the best track off 'Album of the Year'. This is a big sounding song that once you heard it you never forget it, it's a Metal classic with the most killer chorus I have ever heard.
Mike Patton as always is today greatest vocalist's as well as most charismatic frontmen. Whether it's coining phrases from the Exorcist "London, let Jesus f**k you!" or pointing fun at his British audience "Hope your enjoying this great holiday, happy 4th of July whoa!......oh". What's extra special about today's set is that we get a World premiere of two brand new songs 'Superhero' and 'Motherf**ker' with hopefully new album in the works? we can only hope! and yes the two new songs sound great I thought they were old songs, I thought I knew them but couldn't put my finger on them.
These two songs totally sound like vintage Faith no More and talking about old material they end the set in the sun off with the anthem Esq. 'We care a Lot' which ends everything off in the perfect way and makes this a set that will go down in history, and a performance that no one can beat at British Summer Time. I know that for months to come I will be delving out all my Faith no More CD's and remembering this really magical day.
