Journey - Great to see Journey back on the big stage!
****
'Don't stop Believing' in Journey they always produce the goods!
I think Journey were amongst the first Rock bands I was introduced to by my older brother, when I was knee high to a grasshopper!!! Well not quite, but I was still at secondary school, just!! I absolutely loved Steve Perry’s voice, and when he left the band all those years ago, I wouldn’t have believed it if you’d told me that they would find someone who could ever sound as good as that.
All Hail Pilipino vocalist Arnel Pineda originally asked to audition for Journey by Neal Schon, after he heard him singing in a Rock covers band, he was almost instantly signed to the band. This guy is really something, a real mini dynamite. Taking to the stage flying and spinning around like a loony, he never stopped throughout the whole set. From the opening number 'Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)', this guy kept you mesmerised with his performance and absolutely stunning vocals.
The non stop hits kept coming, with barely a breath between them, classic such as 'Any way you want It, Only the Young' and 'Open Arms'. Aided by the superb musicianship of Neal Schon, Ross Valory, Jonathan Cain and Deen Castronovo. The crowd were on their feet for the entirety of the show, singing along to all the hits and punching the air during the up tempo tracks. Highlights for me were two of my personal favourite Journey numbers 'Wheel in the Sky' and 'Faithfully' sung back to back.
Awesome!!! although the days of the cigarette lighter being waved during the slowies, have long gone, people made do with mobile phone lights and glow sticks, but the effects were the same, with balls of light scattering the audience. Crowd pleaser 'Don’t stop Believin' finished this truly amazing set, along with a huge explosion and storm of confetti. Everyone satisfied with a night full of fantastic Rock Music.
