AlterRed - The new album is something to be heard!!!
****
The new songs are amazing but not the right crowd on the night!
AlterRed **** you would think that this event Club Antichrist would be the perfect place for a Electronic Cabaret act, but tonight it seems to not be the case and it's not the bands fault because they are going all out to impress. The band have some pretty impressive new material and are about to launch their new album 'The time it take to Smile'.
This album is already gathering interest on the internet and contains one song with tonight's host Joe Black as Patient number two which they sadly don't perform tonight and it's also sad to see the lack of keyboardist Mark Olleson with him being missing onstage from tonight's show and normal mannequin Vix Vain is taking over the duties from him.
They also have some technical problems in the first song 'In the Garden' with the Microphone not working properly which they fix with not damage to the set because they go on to do a impressive performance. By the time they get to 'And we Disappear' all the problems have disappeared (Mind the Pun) and the set is launched into motion. This track is one of the best songs on the bands last album 'Dollstown' which is Electronic and Dancey and has a good vibe to it.
They then played 'Like April Fools' off the first album 'Mind-Forged Manacles' and their seems to be a new life in it, that it didn't have before. Since the recording of this song they have added live Electronic drum and percussionist Stevie Saint and I think this brings a more dynamics to the bands performance. They still have their mannequin doll movements on stage that still look cool, but sometimes a little over done and trying because they go on the whole way through the set. I think they need to mix it up a little, but it does still look really cool like something out of a creepy Doctor Who episode.
New songs 'Dread' and 'Red and black Coins' really stand out and have a really big sound and think go down really well in the set and I would love to see how they evolve more with time. While songs like 'The Patient' and closer 'Fleshbind' both sound better than they ever have. Other new songs 'Spine' which has lots of dynamics and 'Coma' which is lively and will be a popular live favourite almost instantly really bring the band into a new bracket. This is a great performance by a band that I own the whole back catalogue for... and will be seeing lots of in the future.
