Brant Bjork - Is a legend of Stoner!
Getting to know one of the kings of Stoner!
While on tour in the UK Stoner legend Brant Bjork speaks to Music Trespass in a London pub!
Music Trespass: How are you today?
Brant Bjork: I'm good thanks
Music Trespass: How’s you trip to the UK going?
Brant: We've been here for three or four days. We played Leeds, Bristol then Southampton last night; then tonight, London.
Music Trespass: You have a new album on the way; tell us a bit about that.
Brant: It's coming out next month. It's called 'Black power Flower' and it's essentially my Punk Rock record I assembled a band of old friend's we are all rooted in Punk Rock and we're just having fun rocking.
Music Trespass: I spoke to John a month or so back. He said for the foreseeable future he sees himself as a solo artist. Is that the case with you now?
Brant: Yeah I think I've got the band thing out of my system. I'm back to doing my own thing, Driving my own car. Not having to worry about the other guys.
Music Trespass: What's your take on the music industry as it is at the moment?
Brant: I think essentially the music business is what it always has been. All the time I've been involved, from the late 80's till now it has gone through some pretty intense changes. I don't know, it makes being a musician very frustrating at times but there's also a lot of positives. It's just a modern market now; technology is dictating the way things go. I just kind of do my thing and the way I conduct my business is to try not to get too consumed by the market and focus on creating good music.
Music Trespass: What can we expect from this current string of dates? Are you focusing on new material or are you diving into your catalogue?
Brant: Yeah I'm going to mix it up. I'm excited about the new record and I'm excited about my new band but I've got a pretty big back catalogue which I think is important to keep some of that stuff alive on stage, so yeah we're mixing it up.
Music Trespass: What music have you been listening to lately?
Brant: I listen to really what I've always listened to I like the old classic rock. A lot of Cream. Actually I have been digging this album by Sinead O'Connor called 'Throw down your Arms' I'm not sure how new it is, I'm not that familiar with her output but this album is full old Reggae cover's. It's great, I've been putting it on every morning.
Music Trespass: You mentioned Cream, Have you seen the recent film of Ginger Baker?
Brant: I have, I saw that, It was er....very entertaining!
Music Trespass: What's your top five Albums?
Brant: Oh gosh! of all time?! I'll go with Cream 'Disraeli Gears', Bob Marley 'Exodus', Jimi Hendrix 'Are you Experienced', Ramones 'Rocket to Russia' and 'Fun House' by The Stooges.
