Covenant release new album 'Leaving Babylon' in the UK on the 9th of September!

After a short phase of turmoil, deconstruction and renewal Eskil Simonsson and his new partners in Covenant have rediscovered their old strengths. Following the departure of Daniel Myer (Haujobb) it seemed as if the band might be torn apart but the now all Swedish line-up.

The new line-up consisting of Eskil Simonsson (Vocals, Composition), Joakim Montelius (Lyrics, Patterns) plus new members Daniel Jonasson (Keyboards, Samplers) and Andreas Catjar (Keyboards, Guitar) fell into a spectacular creative work mode instantly.

A forerunner EP for the new album entitled 'Last Dance' has already topped the German Alternative charts for over a month, but will surely not be the ‘Last Dance’ before ‘Leaving Babylon’. On the contrary, other new songs such as 'Prime Movers', the opulent 'Ignorance and Bliss' or the more relaxed groove of 'For our Time' are also potential hits in waiting for dark dance floors Worldwide

Even so 'Leaving Babylon' has far more to offer than club songs alone and it is perhaps its less conventional contents that will create the most interest among listeners. The sporadic guitar chords of 'I walk Slow', the harpsichord to the intro of 'Thy kingdom Come' and the piano in the closing ballad 'Not to be Here' are just a few examples of proof that Covenant have continued to develop their writing and arranging skills. Taking the album as a whole, they have struck just the right balance between accessible yet experimental songs.

As for its lyrical subject matter, the album tackles a weighty theme. In spite of awareness of the degradation of information and the conflict between knowledge and commerce for at least the last two centuries, de-evolution is accelerating in an alarming way. Although the war for information and for the order of knowledge historically began in ancient times, it reached a new stage with the age of mass data procession or prism: “The floor collapses as we dance”. It is no coincidence that the cover artwork for both the album and 'Last Dance' EP display stylised towers as polygons, reaching into the sky in front of a stormy background.  The fascinating theme of 'Leaving Babylon' has found a well matched realisation in the album artwork by Tobias Green, making it a distinguished work of art as well as an exceptional album.

'Leaving Babylon' is released in the UK on the 9th of September on Dependent Records and will be distribution via PlasticHead.
