We are the Ocean - Do a steady set at Truck!
***
We are the Ocean perform a steady Post-Punk set!
We are the Ocean *** (Barn Stage) as you know from previous reviews on this band, In the beginning I was really keen on them but since they have got rid of their singer I think they have gone down hill. Well today is a slightly better set for the band, the room is dark and the audience is really up for We are the Ocean's brand of Post Punk.
We are the Ocean have got some radio play recently with tracks like 'Bleed' and 'Young Heart' which have more of a commercial edge to them and very different from their original material off their debut album 'Cutting our Teeth' which brought them to the attention of the press and a mass young fan base. They play 'Waiting' off this but it just doesn't seem the same as it did when it was first recorded. The song has a totally different vibe to it but still goes down really well.
I would not go out of my way to see We are the Ocean anymore in my eyes they are a different band, but sometimes people evolve into something different and it appeals to new people. I think they are gaining a whole new fan base, the only thing I think needs to change is their furious live show, with Liam Cromby having a furious angry edge to him which doesn't really work with the new songs. Today he is really bringing across this and it just makes for an uneasiness. If you like commercial Post Punk I would recommend We are the Ocean you will love them.
