Chrysalism - Asks you to sign 'Your name Here' !!!
Visual and special, you won't forget Chrysalism
North London’s Chrysalism releases gentle, flowing new single ‘Forget Me’ ahead of debut EP ‘Your name Here’ which is dropping on March 6th, 2020. (Aka) Michal Vojtech, Chrysalism embraces everyday melodrama, crafting Lo-fi romantic songs set in a vintage view futuristic World. He combines low-key RnB inflected Indie balladry with an eye for aesthetic taken from co-ownership of a visual arts collective. This spirit of collaboration is exemplified by Jakob Ogawa’s guitarist Axel Oksby appearing on the recording, if you have not heard it yet then you really need to.
Crafting night-time vignettes as though precisely composing a photograph, ‘Forget Me’ is the latest sonic Polaroid developed in his darkroom. It’s a willowy waltz built around bubbling arpeggios, reminiscent of a lullaby in the way it drifts and becalms. There’s a solemn undertone too, as Michal expresses opaquely: This recourse to cinematic influences is archetypal of the story-lead approach Michal usually takes.
He swings from the sombre to the surreal; previous singles have taken on being haunted by the idea of love, Elon Musk stealing his girlfriend away to Mars, cult Japanese actor Tomokazu Miura, or the melancholy travails of a lonely Monday Nite DJ. The futuristic romanticism entailed has led to acclaim of the songcraft and atmosphere from i-D (Best new Music), DUMMY (Brand New - The Best new Artists), The Line of Best Fit, Clash, Lyrical Lemonade, HERO Magazine and DIY and more.
A London transplant from Prague, he moved here to pursue music, visual arts and writing. This led to the foundation of visual-arts collective Peakaboo Luv with whom he has created video collages for his own tracks and others, as well as shot live videos for (Sandy) Alex G and ElvisDepressedly. They’ve also hosted underground fashion shows and art exhibitions that descend into wild parties, generating an array of connections in the artistic underground across London.
This cross-arts and collective approach to his tunes, as well as both a retro-leaning and future-gazing mesh, results in something at once unique and recognisable. ‘Forget Me’ by Chrysalism is out on February 20th and was produced by Patrick Fitzroy of London band Heavy Heart. It features Axel Oksby - Guitars, David Zbirka - Bass and Oliver Torr - Synth.
