****1/2
Amazing selection of songs!!!
(Bearded Theory - Meadow Stage)
Therapy? ****1/2 - I was looking forward to seeing Therapy? again, I hadn't seen them in a while. But when I was younger, had a huge connection with them. Even singing some songs onstage with them, at various shows. So they are a band, that I know very well. And had seen live countless times at the height of their fame, when 'Troublegun' (1994) came out and the other big albums after it. You really don't realise these days, what an impact this band had on the Rock and Metal scene. For me, they were a gateway into so many other bands, when people said "Oh you like Therapy?... you will love this as well.". I don't know how I saw their gigs around 'Troublegun', because I was not allowed to go to shows on my own.
But I think we have all sneaked out to see a band that we love, I just wish I had sneaked out more. The bands Irish tones, always gave them a dark overtone. And this got even darker when they released a version of the classic Husker Du song 'Diane', which was so evil it just blew me away when it was first released. So it's nice they included this in their Bearded Theory setlist, which was a performance that has been one of their best in years. The setlist is so strong, you go so many of the songs you want to hear. Which also includes their cover of the Joy Division classic 'Isolation', which they really made their own. And they do this again with their live performance at the festival, because the evil Priest, Michael McKeegan, is jumping a round up and down like Tiger. And is having a good time, while Andy Cairns is belting out the lyrics.
I was always a big fan of the 'Infernal Love' (1995), it was a slight change in style. But keeping with the same Therapy? vibe, it had happy moments... always mixed with a bit of the dark. And included five singles, my favourite of which were 'Stories', 'Loose' and 'Diane'. Two of them they play tonight, but it's not these tracks that the crowd really goes crazy for. They want to hear 'Teethgrinder', 'Potato Junkie', 'Die Laughting', 'Nowhere', 'Screamager' and 'Knives', all of which are just awesome tonight. I don't normally mention so many songs as highlights, but Therapy? are on form and every moment of their set is a highlight. And New model Army have to play the set of their life, to follow them.
Even though I would say these are the highlights of the their set, I do enjoy hearing 'Stories', because it has always been one of my favourites. But you can't beat 'Potato Junkie', with the whole crowd chanting 'James Joyce is F**king my sister!"... it is quite something to behold. Also singing all the lyrics to 'Die Laughing' and 'Nowhere', and just going crazy for the last song 'Knives'. I think if you want to see Therapy? again, this is the time for you to do it, because at the moment they are really producing the goods. So what are you waiting for, get your Therapy? items out and listen to them again and see them live at a town near you.
