Skarlett Riot - Support Infected Rain in Camden
***
Fall a little short on the verge of their new album
Skarlett Riot *** are a band we have covered a lot in Music Trespass Magazine and were the cover of the third official magazine, so we were interested in what they would be like on the verge of the release of their new album 'Caelestia' on October 25th. An album that we have heard, and think could be their best one to date. I think Skarlett Riot are a band that are better on the slightly bigger stage, in well lit venues. So the Camden, Underworld was always going to be a struggle for them. And supporting Infected Rain, a band that are a lot heavier than them. Even though they have similarities in places, was going to make this a very interesting evening.
Because they are only supporting, Skarlett Riot's set is very short only seven songs. So they have added some of the best songs 'Breaking the Habit', 'Luminate', 'Stronger' and 'Human'. Recently in an interview Chloe 'Skarlett' Drinkwater singer of the band said that Lena Scissorhands (Infected Rain) was someone she looked upto, so it's a nice moment for her to be supporting them in London. Both Danny Oglesby (Guitar) and Tim Chambers (Bass), do their best to bring a heavier aspect to the bands set.
As Skarlett screaches out the lyrics, in a powerful way. As I think was said in our previous review of the band, her vocals have come on a long way from when they first started. But I think the constant touring, has taken a little effect on the power for this show. I think sometimes bands should tour a bit less, and play the right shows. Because I think touring so much, must be hard on any band. Skarlett Riot have been gathering a few more fans in the last few years, and there are quite a few t-shirts around the venue for them. Which shows they are on their way up, and that there will be quite a bit of demand for their new album.

I would have to say Skarlett Riot don't really hit a note with me personally, but I do think they have a place in the Alternative Rock genre. Especially with so many female fronted bands coming out at the moment, people are really liking the vocals provided by women in Rock. 'Underwater' a track that came out three years ago, has some nice moments to it tonight and is one of my personal highlights in their set. It has good melodies, and great riffage.
So that is one of the songs I think you should have a listen to. It is a great Pop / Rock song, with a commercial edge... that makes it very listenable to and chart friendly. If you like what you have read, and listened to then please check out Skarlett Riot. They are a band that is going places, and will be playing bigger venues very soon. But I personally would see them in a slightly bigger venue than the Camden, Underworld, where it suits them a little better.
