Tracer - Blast through a hot and sweaty set!
***
Promising new band hit the Jagermeister stage!
Hard Rock Hell
Tracer *** are on late on the Jagermeister stage and play to a tired crowd. Tracer are a band that should be playing the main stage today after have big audiences on their tour and various albums that have done very well. The lateness of their set as effected the amount of people that have come to see them today so their is a much smaller crowd in attendance than they should have got.
They have so much experience on the live circuit and, like The Treatment, seem to have attracted the only few young ladies at the festival. By now, the room is very sticky and a lot of girls in the audience seem to faint when singer Michael Brown arrives and for a second time later on when he takes his shirt off. They really do grab the audience but the sound is not that great and they don’t work the stage as much as they should do, with a lot of the stage not even being used.
They open with single 'Hangman' off the new album 'El Pistolero' which has a real Silverchair feel to it, like the fellow Australian band they emulate they are a three piece of pretty young men from down under. This song burst into life and you can see influence are their also from Soundgarden and Stone temple Piolets. They have been influenced from the Grunge and Rock scenes in America and the vocals by Michael of a man far past his years. This song is a large commercial Rock radio song but doesn't hit with the impact today as it does on the album.
They follow this up with the explosive 'Too Much' off the album before 'Spaces in Between' and this song really grooves into life and the band really go for it but don't quite manage to use all the space on the stage like they should. I think they need to learn that they need to fill the full stage to make a good live show work. This song though is a really nice piece of Rock future and past. They then try to drag you in with 'Manic for You' which for my liking isn't manic enough but the room is steaming up and the band are lifting up the pace from song to song.
Title track of the new record 'El Pistoleso' is very nice and has a great bass line that bassiest Jett really delivers in the way you want him to, running to the front of the stage and stepping on the monitors as he blasts out chords. They are doing so well and then the set just get's too chilled and slow and it is all calm for a mid interval of set filling songs, which are just too slow and don't really go anywhere.
They get back on track with 'Wolf in cheap Clothes' before they introduce you to the Stoner riffs of 'Dead Gardens' and set closer 'Dead Inside' that builds up as it goes on. Tracer are a really promising new band and are really ones to watch, so keep an eye on them because as they grow in experience they will be one the best Rock bands around.
