Ghøstkid - Follow the white Rabbit

*****
The modern sound of Ghøstkid will lift them to the next level

Ghøstkid is a name that has been going around for a while now, but I hadn't listened to them as much as I should have. Hailing from Gelsenkirchem in Germany, they are part of the new wave of interesting bands coming out of Europe at the moment. Ghøstkid vocalist Sebastian Biesler co-founded the band Electric Callboy (then known as Eskimo Callboy) in 2010, recording five studio albums with them. Electric Callboy have been announced as a headliner for next year's Bloodstock Festival, but going by this album... I think Ghøstkid could follow in their footsteps.

'Follow the white Rabbit' is the band's third studio album, and possibly their best to date. You can see the transition from the band's first record to their new one; they layered their sounds to show what was in store in the future. With every song being slightly better or more polished than the last, showing that they are one of the bands to really watch in 2027. Ghøstkid consists of Sebastian "Sushi" Biesler - Lead Vocals, Guitars, Bass / Iain Duncan - Guitars (2026-present) / David Friedrich - Drums / Axel One - Bass, have a pure desire to impress on the new record. Blending Dark Pop vibes with Modern Metal / Metalcore, they show that you can have catchy melodies with heavy guitar riffs.

I think they do this by keeping their songs short and to the point, with no songs being over four and a half minutes long. They have learned how to make a proper Dark Pop / Metal song, and you can see that from the start of the album. After the intro to the album, they open everything up with a future classic track, 'Ivory', which even has a certain sound to it that could be described as a modern-day dark German Korn song. Only difference is that Ghøstkid have really nice Melodic clean vocals that almost verge as atmospheric at times. 'Modern Death' is a dark lullaby of things gone wrong, mixing up Electronics with creepy voices and even taking a little influence I think, from Skynd and The Birthday Massacre.

I really love the track 'I destroyed You', which is one of the first songs I heard off the new record. It is really nice to listen to, even if you think you might have heard something similar before. We all like to recall sounds, especially when they are put in a new package. This reminds me a little of something off the Dead by Sunrise album, which was a project that Chester Bennington (Linkin Park / Grey Daze) did. The title track 'Follow the white Rabbit', makes you think a little bit of a more Rap version of Motionless in White's infamous album, but done in their own style. This song may even have a hint of 'Iowa' by Slipknot if it were more atmospheric and put together in a tight package.

'Purple Snakes' continues this on nicely, leading on to what is a pure Rock / Metal hit 'Give your kid a gun to Play' which mixes up all the elements we have mentioned before in one song. The rest of the songs on the record keep to maybe a more commercial version of previous songs, with a slow one added in for good measure. Just leaving the path to closure, 'White Rainbow', which is one of the highlights of the record. All the songs go in nicely together, making it a well-put-together album... and a band I will be checking out more in the future.
