Motorhead - Aftershock
****
Another great album by Lemmy and the boys!
As easy as it is to forget, some things you can rely on. No matter what is going on in the world or the musical climate every other year Motorhead will drop an album of pure no messing about, balls out Rock 'n' Roll and 2013 is no exception. With poor reports of live shows plus news of Lemmy's health scares it's safe to say we were all surprised amongst the chaos a new album sprung out of nowhere bang on time. It's also safe to assume most people weren't that worried about how good the album was they were just happy to have the one.
With the one two punch of 'Heartbreaker' then the mighty 'Coup de Grace' it's clear there was nothing to worry about. This is Lemmy and the boys god dammit! They sound as fresh and energetic as ever. It's brilliantly produced and sounds huge! It's probably their most varied album in a while too. 'Lost woman Blues' and 'Glass and Dust' show the band slowing and taking it easy. We're treated to a slow Bluesy trip that would be cool if the band did a bit more of actually but the masses want it fast and heavy and the band deliver in heaps and bounds. 'Gone to Mexico' and 'Death Machine' are bound to be future live classics.
It's a business as usual affair really, when you're in the mood for Motorhead nothing really suffices and the bands new material never really gets a fair hearing. They have been on a winning streak since 2004's 'Inferno'. When you talk about under rated you cannot get more then Phil Campbell and Mikkey Dee. Lemmy.
Lemmy is of course but the quality of work these two have provided the band always seems to outshine the bands heyday. Lemmy is on fine form as ever with his worldly wise and humorous lyrics. 'Aftershock' is simply Motorhead doing exactly what you want them to do, playing hard and playing loud. They are Motorhead and they play Rock 'n' Roll!
