Generation Kill - We're all gonna Die

Exodus Frontman branches out with second release from his side project!

'We're all gonna Die' is the second release from Rob Dukes of Exodus fame's although not a million miles away from his main band. Generation Kill goes to area's he wouldn't really go in Exodus, which is what you want to hear from a different project. Full of dark melodic songs, even taking on grunge on a couple of tracks 'We're all gonna Die' still has plenty of heavy moments. What really stands out is that Rob Dukes really flexes his muscles as a vocalist on here and he shows that he is far from a one trick pony vocally.

Opening track 'Born to Serve' kicks in with a great riff resembling something actually quite mainstream, Think Sevendust or Five Finger death Punch. It's full of groove, it's catchy but still maintains it's heaviness. Second and third track 'Prophets of War' and 'Death comes Calling' is when we see a change both songs start out slow, dark and quite mellow. Rob does brilliantly clean vocals and almost spoken word on places on these two tracks. Both follow the formula as starting out slow and quiet then build up to a heavy climax.

Both tracks work but they are very similar and having both together on the album they are in danger canceling each other out rather then gel especially when on the quiet moments Rob insists on using words that end in "tion"! this is a minor issue and doesn't really effect the album as a whole and the tracks individually work very well, Things liven up considerably on 'Friendly Fire' a straight up Thrash song which opens with some awesome shredding.

The albums highlight is the sinister 'Carney Love' an odd song about the carnal pleasures of traveling fair ground freaks. 'Vegas' is a pretty straight forward Rock song, the album ends with a one, two punch of 'There is no Hope' and the title track both tracks are balls out, full speed thrash especially 'We're all gonna Die' is two and a half minutes of rage. All in all it's varied yet solid album. They are primarily a thrash band but they are not restrained by it. Generation Kill have a long way to eclipse Exodus but it will be interesting to see how this project develops.  Well worth checking out Exodus fan or not
