Kamchatka - The Search goes On...
****
Kamchatka come into their own on fourth LP!!!
For some reason when you here on Kamchatka through press releases etc they get lumped in with Clutch. They are Clutch approved and touring buddies, well granted if your a fan of the Stoner giants you'll probably will like Kamchatka but the band have plenty under their musical belts to win an audience all of their own. Kamchatka are really a Blues band with a Stoner shell, the songs are heavy the rhythm section are based on Stoner or Grunge but Thomas Andersson's guitar playing is very deep in blues, throughout the album if you focus on the guitar you hear Rory Gallagher, Peter Green, Eric Clapton etc and it's awesome for it!
'Tango Decadence' rocks along with a bouncy tempo which you can't help but nod along to, it will go down a storm live then you have the Doobie Brothers flavored 'Coast to Coast' it's such an uplifting track it can't fail to put you in a good mood. Thomas has a real smooth, rich voice it's hard to put a finger on it.
Imagine somewhere between Eric Clapton and a later day Chris Cornell. 'Son of the Sea' is a sure fire summer hit, with it's rolling bass and it catchy as hell chorus and a simply brilliant solo. The albums main problem is that the opening track 'Some Days' is actually the albums weakest track. 'Broken Man' is a mellow track which is Grunge really, it's been a long time since I've described a new song that way but it is and it's great.
The album doesn't outstay it's welcome clocking in a just under fifty minutes, there is some fantastic musicianship but it never strays into self indulgence everything is exactly what the song needs no more no less. It chops and changes pace and stay interesting throughout. It has also a great live feel to it. All in all a great album from a great band that have been going from strength to strength since their inception in 2001. I've said it a few times but this is a summer album, just listen and you will know.
