Chunk! No, Captain Chunk! - Bring you some fun Pop / Metalcore!
****1/2
Haters might hate, but we love the Chunk!
Chunk! No, Captain Chunk! **** 1/2 set is far to short but they try to fit in as much as they can by coming at you at a speed that couldn't be any faster. Tonight they seem to be the band that the most people have come to see and if I am honest that is me too, their sense of fun is just contagious and they have some really great catchy songs. They mix up the depths of Pop Punk with the heavy sound of Metalcore with ease and these Frenchies are not to be missed, "If you pardon my French!!!". Their sound could be compared to Billy Talent in a train wreck with Attila and they look like their having real fun while they produce this new brand of music.
The Intro kinks in and they break into the awesome riffs that kicks in 'Restart' with a buzz and the squeaky clean vocals that are mixed up with the deep grouls and screams. This infectious song makes you realise why you like this band so much and in my opinion one of the best. Showing the strength of the 2013 album 'Pardon my French' that lifted them up to the next level. The more heavy 2011 album 'Something for Nothing' did produce some good material to but I think the production and commercial sound on the new record is superior. Do love though the intensity of 'Captain Blood' which clugs along nicely and in places shows they could have even made it in a heavier genre.
'Taking Chances' sounds like a cross between Blink 182 and Bullet for my Valentine dragged in off the streets and is a very steady track indeed and see's the band really taking command of the stage. It leads on to one of the bands most heavy tracks 'I am nothing like You' which shows new dimensions of what the band can do. The song that goes down the best is the Ke$ha cover off the compilation album 'Punk goes Pop (Volume 4)' which was a big Pop hit and everyone in the crowd seems to know.
The way Chunk! have made it their own to is really special so it really get's you on your feet jumping around. They end the set with 'Haters gonna Hate' and 'In friends we Trust' too songs that go so quickly you almost don't even notice the band has played them. I think by the time they are finished, everyone in the crowd is a fan of Chunk! No, Captain Chunk! and if they are not they are more stupid than the band. Even though this band is a little silly the music is well put together and the songs are really brilliant so are a band if you see them playing I advise you to go see.
