The Goth Faithful invade Slimes!

Partly Faithful **** should be a lot bigger than they actually are, they mix up sounds that come from influences such as Bauhaus, The Birthday Party and Traditional Goth. Singer Ed Tuke previously of Screaming banshee Aircrew is a great frontman with a great charisma to back it up and an appearance straight out of the 80's all black and raggedy with patches. Also showing that leather jackets can still be cool, even thou acts like Bon Jovi and U2 have put them a little out of rogue recently.

The bands debut album 'Lazarus under Glass' has had great reception and it sounds like it was recorded over twenty years ago, so has a great retro sound. The album leads on from where their last two EP's left off and this could be because of the addition of guitarist Anouska Haze who has fitted very nicely into the bands line-up. Sadly Anouska and drummer Belle Star (Ex-Rachel Stamp, Ex-Killing Miranda) are missing in action today and Ed has brought in two very good replacements, so the show must go on and they didn't have to cancel.

Track 'Beehive' seems to have new life in it and 'Scribbles' is a normal delight but it's 'Just Fine' and 'We are Insect' that really lift up their set and bring it to life. Including great moments with Ed and torches and going down into the crowd singing the songs as he does. Partly Faithful have a few cult fans in the audience but they should really be pulling a bigger crowd now on their own right and they have not really crossed over markets as much as they should have.

I think this is because bands like Cold in Berlin and Terminal Gods who have been on the same scene as the Faithful have not really sold their craft to the right market so the mainstream hasn't really accepted them in. The Goth resurgence of a couple of years ago that looked very promising has died back and the buzz has almost disappeared, but being on the bill with Clan of Xymox today is the right move for the band and will hopefully get them a few new fans.

The way bands like The Horrors have moved forward is that they have changed their sound to move with the times but in a way I really don't want Partly Faithful to change because their sound is simply brilliant and I want more bands to sound this way. They are also a band that really suits this venue and makes the most of every minute they have onstage so when they finish with 'Black Box' you don't want them to leave and are ready for more. I look forward to seeing this band live again in the future.
